Why
did the Bishops stop traveling and recording?
There are so many versions of this story out there that I'm
sure you've heard one or more of them. For a more complete
answer and a little more read my story.
Will
the Bishops ever sing together again?
Dad, Mark and I have come together on a few occasions to perform
for special events. Usually it is to perform the National
Anthem or another gospel or patriotic song. That was the case
when we sang at a rally featuring President Bush and for Governor
Ernie Fletcher's inauguration. We also do a complete reunion
concert each year in Berea, Kentucky at the Mark
Bishop Homecoming.
Where
are the band members?
When the Bishops disbanded we were traveling with two awesome
musicians. Junior Williams had actually already informed us
that he was working with several other guys to form a bluegrass
band. NewFound
Road is now one of the top bluegrass bands on the
circuit today. They are crossing stylistic lines and making
some fantastic music. Michael Lee is working out of the Cleveland,
Tennessee area producing, engineering and writing for several
Gospel music artists at his Life
Sounds Studio. He has several great artists on his
roster and lots of talent to make a great sounding record.
What
have you been doing?
Right after the Bishops stopped traveling I went to work with
a firm that manages and produces motivational speakers and
seminars. After about a year there I started my own company
doing web development, artist imaging/consultation and political
campaign management/consultation. I then joined the Fletcher
for Governor campaign here in Kentucky for the next year and
a half. Immediately after the election I went to work in the
Fletcher administration and currently serve as the executive
director of the Governor's
Mansion in Frankfort, Kentucky.
What
are your plans?
I simply intend to wait, listen and follow. More than anything
else, I want to make sure that my motivations for ministry
are pure. I've promised God and myself that I will not put
either one of us in a bind. Of course, He's not obligated
to follow my plans anyway. So I suppose it would be my back
against the wall should things go awry.
Right
now I am collecting material for a new recording. I've spoken
with several great songwriters that I think share my ideas
of grace above everything else, and we are working together
to create a collection of songs that will deal with some tough
issues head-on.
I
am also scheduling some appearances. I want to go everywhere,
and I mean everywhere. There is not a church that doesn't
qualify or a person that doesn't count. As events are scheduled
they'll be posted on the appearances
page.
What
is a Kenny Bishop event like?
My experience with the Bishops taught me that an artist's
presentation usually evolves with every performance. I expect
that will be the case with me. So you may come to a Kenny
Bishop event this week, then come back later to find things
are completely different. I mostly share my story, sing a
few songs, share scripture and tell a bit about the "new"
God I found. Not that He's ever changed. I just hadn't found
Him as He was just yet. It ought to be exciting.
How
do I schedule you for an appearance?
You can call our office at 859.514.6312or email us at KennyBishop@aol.com.
How
old are your kids?
Casie was born on November 10, 1988.
Christian was born on June 20, 1993. (Father's Day)
They would both like a house payment for their birthdays.
Can
you tell us a little about them?
Now this is one of my favorite subjects.
Casie is now one of (actually the most) gorgeous young ladies
ever to grace this earth. She's giving lots of thought to
her future as she decides the direction she wants to go. Of
course that's when she's not thinking about her boyfriend,
her clothes or her car.
Christian has decided he wants to be a professional video
game player. Someone somewhere told him there was such a thing.
There probably is. He enjoys playing soccer on his school's
team. He also plays basketball, baseball and this really cute
little game called "if-it's-in-Dad's-wallet-we-should-spend-it."
You can see pictures of both Casie and Christian on the
family pics page.
Where
do you live?
I live in Lexington,
Kentucky. It's the "horse capitol of the world."
Of course we're known for other things too, but this is not
the place to mention them.
Where
do you go to church?
I attend a really awesome church called Quest
Community Church here in Lexington. It is one of the
most vibrant and grace filled places a despot like me can
go to worship. I recommend it or one like it to everyone.
Do
you have any solo recordings?
Back in 1994 I recorded a solo piece with the Eddie Crook
Company called Reaching Out. It is currently still
available on cassette and CD. You can find it in the store
section of this site.
Where
can I find older Bishops recordings?
The only Bishops recordings that are available handily are
Stories, which was the group's very last recording,
and Great Things. They are currently both available
on cassette and CD and can be purchased in the store
section of this site.
What
are your favorites?
| Bishops
Song(s): |
We
recorded literally hundreds of songs. Choosing a favorite
is so hard to do. It seemed that my favorite Bishops song
would change so often, depending on who we were singing
to or how I felt at the time. Too, by the time a new recording
came out we were so ready to start performing the new
songs. But, probably the one that blessed and encouraged
me most consistently was You Can't Ask Too Much of
My God. |
| Bishops
recording(s): |
We
found a real musical chemistry while recording our very
last album Stories. Jeff Collins produced it, and
it is my favorite. The songs (courageous lyrics and original
melodies) were very touching, and the production was just
beyond amazing. My favorite album to record (it was just
so much fun), and probably my second favorite overall,
is Kentucky Bluegrass. We had a real blast in the
studio doing that one. BTW, that recording won a Dove
Award. |
| Song(s)
that you wrote: |
I've
really not written enough to have a favorite. But I suppose
if I had to chose one it would be It Takes The Blood.
|
| Gospel/Christian
Song(s): |
It
really depends on my mood and the current situation. Right
now I am a HUGE Crossway
fan. Their song It Looks Like Love is one of the
most inspiring songs I've heard in a long, long time. |
| Gospel/Christian
Singer(s): |
For
as long as I can remember I have been a Janet
Paschal fan. One night I watched her sing to
about ten thousand weeping and sobbing worshippers while
she stood on the stage and cried a river herself. Her
voice never, not once, ever even quivered. Another real
favorite of mine is Babbie
Mason. She looks absolutely fabulous! I could
listen to Babbie sing for hours. And have.

| Scripture(s): |
Ephesians
2:8-9
It is by grace you have been saved through faith; not
by anything of your own, but by a gift from God; not by
anything you have done so that nobody can claim credit.

| Secular
Artist(s): |
I
enjoy so many different types of music. Some of my favorite
artists in different styles of music are Josh
Groban, Tony
Bennett, James
Taylor, Shania
Twain,
and Lucas
Prata. |
| Secular
Song(s): |
In
my opinion I Hope You Dance by Lee
Ann Womack is one of the most inspiring and clever
songs ever. Another favorite is You Raise Me Up
by Josh Groban, and Somewhere Over the Rainbow
(Judy
Garland was the original, but I think my favorite
rendition is by the late Israel
Kamakawiwo`ole.) Even though I like good techno
music, I found a techno version of it that almost made
me take it off my list of favorites. |
| Book(s): |
Much
like the music I listen to, I enjoy so many different
types of reads. One of my favorites though is Tuesdays
with Morrie by Mitch
Albom. I love reading history and biographies
as well. |
| Author(s): |
There
aren't a lot of writers that I am attached to. I'm more
attracted to types of books than authors. |
| Movie(s) |
Mr.
Smith Goes to Washington with Jimmy
Stewart is one of my all-time favorite movies.
It's not a movie for everyone (use caution), but Sordid
Lives is absolutely one of the funniest movies
ever made. The movie version is adapted from the stage
play by Del
Shores. |
| TV
Show(s) |
The
West Wing is a real favorite TV show of mine.
I also enjoy old shows from the 1970s. Grey's
Anatomy is a great show too. |
| Actor(s)
& Actress(es) |
When
I saw the movie Castaway and watched Tom
Hanks interact with a volley ball for about 20
minutes, I decided he was my favorite actor.
I also think Johnny
Depp is a great actor. He was a credible constable
(Sleepy Hollow) an eccentric matey (Pirates of the Caribbean),
a convincing J.M. Barrie (Finding Neverland) and a fantabumainious
Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).
My favorite TV personalities are Megan
Mullally (Will & Grace and those really cute
M&Ms commercials) and John
Spencer (West Wing). |
| Food(s): |
Grilled
Chicken Caesar Salad is my favorite. But I won't turn
down a plate of lasagna or a helping of hot, buttery popcorn. |
| Color(s): |
Green
in the spring, blue in the summer, orange in the fall
and red in the winter (complicated I know) |
