Kenny Performs At Governor's Prayer Breakfast
FRANKFORT, Kentucky Southern Gospel recording artist
Kenny Bishop recently performed and served as master of ceremonies
at the Governor's Prayer Breakfast in Frankfort, Kentucky.
Several hundred dignitaries, elected officials, as well as
church and business leaders from across the Commonwealth gathered
at the Frankfort Convention Center for the annual event on
January 23rd.
"Being
able to serve Christ with an expression of service to my state
and my governor was a beautiful experience for me," Kenny
said. "Singing faith songs to men and women who deal
with very weighty issues that affect our livelihood and freedoms
is a great responsibility. I was honored to be able to participate."
Recently
retired Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day joined Governor Ernie
Fletcher as special guest speaker for this year's event. Day
shared his story of drug recovery and conversion, and his
work now to carry the Gospel as the racing industry representative
for the Race Track Chaplaincy of America. Day has won nine
Triple Crown races including five Preakness victories, three
Belmont Stakes wins and the prestigious Kentucky Derby.
This
was the 43rd year for the Governor's Prayer Breakfast. The
CBMC of the Bluegrass, formerly known as the Christian Business
Men's Committee, organizes and promotes the event. Local media,
religious groups and the ACLU have criticized the Governor,
accusing him of leaving out non-Christians. Governor Fletcher
responded by saying he has the utmost respect for different
faiths. He also said that he felt that most people who voted
for him were aware of his own Christian faith.
The
Anti Defamation League said the Governor does not understand
the "acceptable boundaries of personal faith and public
office."
"Being
able to express our faith by singing and praying in a public
arena is a founding tenant of our country's philosophy,"
Kenny responded. "All of the groups, people and organizations
who feel that a person must suppress their faith, or keep
it tucked away because they are an elected servant of the
people are not sensitive to the Christian believer's first
calling as a servant of Christ."
Along
with his recordings on Daywind Records and public appearances,
Kenny serves as the Executive Director of the Governor's Mansion
in Frankfort, Kentucky.
